#DogGate

But actually a dog gate.

The internet, especially social media, is an unpredictable place. Some days, I share things I think you guys are gonna go nuts for but you don’t, and other days, I share things I figure no one but myself is going to care about and you guys light up!

Perfect example: This dog gate. This might be the most investigated item I have ever shared on Instagram. On one hand, I was truly shocked because it’s just a dog/baby gate; some would say it’s probably not the most riveting content. But on the other hand, it’s so darn pretty and so well made, that of course you guys reacted to it!

We have two lovely but crazy basset hounds who are always plotting their next escape out the front door. Honestly, I have no idea why they would want to leave this life of leisure—they have it pretty good! But for some reason, anytime someone comes to our front door, they try to hightail it out of here. For the longest time, we’ve had just a plain, wooden folding gate that was never secured to the wall or floor in order to prevent escape, so I figured it was finally time for an upgrade.

At first, I wanted to find someone local to make the gate but couldn’t find anyone close by. I ended up on Etsy, where I found Lumber Lovin. The shop had lots of great reviews and photos, so I was instantly intrigued. That’s when I spotted this dog gate. I immediately reached out to the owner who was quick to reply and assure me we could work together on a custom listing for a double gate!

I knew that I would be happy with this purchase based on the shop’s previous work, but I didn’t know it was possible to fall in love with a hunk of wood. While it was pricer than I had planned, I can say it’s well worth it. This gate will be in place for the rest of our pup’s lives, i.e. well past Georgia’s toddler years or any future sibling she might have some day 😉Not only that, it was incredibly easy to install which makes the price even more worth it. It took my husband about 30 minutes to get it up and running; for what it’s worth, we ended up not installing the bar to the floor and just using the caster wheel on one side.

I’m just so pleased with this purchase. This gate is functional and amazing quality. Then again, anything would’ve been better than the old gate we had. Late in the summer, Georgia accidentally (or on purpose. Honestly, who knows!) dropped that gate onto my foot, and I almost kicked her out of the house. My toe is still not 100% and hurts from the incident. It was in that moment that I knew we needed to upgrade and fast, so thank goodness for Lumber Lovin! We have a metal baby gate on the other side of the entryway and we need one at the top of the stairs, so I’m already scheming on how I can replace both without spending my 401K. I’ll figure it out, but in the meantime, yay for new gates!
