How To Create a Playroom Gallery Wall
SHOP THE PLAYROOM
The concept of a gallery wall isn’t exactly unique, but it’s certainly timeless! I recently created this fun gallery wall in Georgia’s playroom and I have to say, I was surprised just how easy it was! I’m walking you through the exact steps you need to create a gallery wall of your own and everything you need to make it your favorite spot in your home!
Now that the artwork is hung, this room feels complete! We also added two faux roman shades this fabric; P Kauffman Call me 442 horizon buffalo check. I used a local seamstress and asked that the shades be a bit deeper than normal to cover the shutters.

The Before:
Why Add a Gallery Wall?
The before set up wasn’t so bad. I liked the Home Good painting but I thought a gallery walls would be a great way to breathe some life into this space. I had a few small items I wanted to hang and this was a fun way to add interest and give us a place to showcase some of Georgia’s personality. This is an easy and inexpensive way to make a room look instantly more finished. Most of the items I used in this project were already in the room, just located in different spots.
Choosing What To Hang
The key to a great gallery wall is having varying sizes, textures and complimenting colors. I started with a fun piece of artwork from Brooke Lancaster and worked my way outwards from there. You can do a combination of fun art prints, like the ones below, or maybe even showcase your own child’s art! Feel free to include a frame with a favorite card in it or a special note! This is where you can really get creative. You can add a fun flag, personal photos or anything that inspires you! Depending on where the gallery wall is located, may dictate the theme and overall feel. Since ours is in a playroom we were able to be a little more playful. I’ve also seen others who frame the alphabet, numbers, or even planets to bring in an educational factor!
How to Layout Your Gallery Wall
When laying out your gallery wall start with your largest piece first and work you way out from their. I recommend laying out your frames and items you plan to hang on the floor first, before you go to hang anything. If you are placing your gallery wall above a piece of furniture remember you want it to start no more than 6-10” from the top of the piece of furniture. You want your gallery to look like a grouping so space your items out no more than 3-4inches from each other. If they are too far apart it will look silly.
How To Hang Your Gallery Wall
The easiest way to hang your gallery wall is to take a piece of painters tape and place it on the back of the item you plan to hang. Next, you will mark exactly where you need to place the nail or screw. If your frame doesn’t have the place for hooks, this picture hanging kit is a life saver! This way, you can place that piece of tape on the wall and you have the exact measurement marker you need to start hammering!
