How To Create The Perfect Play Kitchen For Your Toddler

In my last blog post, I shared the ins, outs, and in-betweens of Georgia’s playroom from her beloved playhouse and table setup to a playmat that looks just like a rug. I was going to include every detail about her play kitchen, but realized her play kitchen was a blog post in itself!! So welcome to part two of how to create the perfect playroom for your toddler.

Originally I thought I would hand these white scalloped floating shelves over for her play kitchen, but I wasn’t sure if this would be a permanent set up so I opted for command strip shelves. I’m glad I did because they’ve worked out so well! They’re super easy to hang banners from and add little knickknacks for each season. On the off-seasons, Georgia will put her wooden play food or rainbow toys on the shelves, and it looks so cute.

I found this kitchen in great condition on Facebook Marketplace and got it for Georgia when she was maybe 10 months? She couldn’t even walk yet, but she loved to stand at the kitchen and put things in the oven so I knew she needed her own mini version. But by the time she was 18 months, I knew we needed to upgrade to a larger kitchen so she got this one last Christmas! We moved the smaller kitchen inside the playhouse, and she still uses it so the answer to your question “Does she have two kitchens?” is yes. Yes she does.

To be honest, kid’s play kitchens aren’t cheap so I took my Google research very seriously. Initially, I had my eye on this pottery barn kitchen, but the price tag was not appealing. We love the kitchen we ended up getting her, and so does Georgia! Specifically, she’s obsessed with the ice dispenser on the fridge door (it’s the small luxuries). Of course, I had to add some Sequins and Lipstick touches to her play kitchen, so I made a little monogrammed decal for the cup that came with it and for this cute tea towel which she also uses as a baby or dog blanket when needed.

Georgia loves to put on her fancy apron and offer up some of her cupcakes that she displays on this stand. Such a hostess! In terms of storage for all her goodies, I added some command hooks to the side of her kitchen, and we also store play food and plates in these cute hyacinth baskets. Everything else goes in these classic clear plastic bins with lids.

When it comes to holiday decor, I think I missed that gene! My mom always decorated in excess so you would think I would enjoy it, but I really like to compartmentalize so having holiday stuff all over the house is my nightmare, HA! However, I’ve always really enjoyed decorating Georgia’s playroom kitchen area for holidays. She loves seeing the new themes, and I love surprising her with them! It only takes about $10 per holiday to excite your toddler to no end with banners and festive decor!

I have to say, the best part about a toddler is being able to be creative and imaginative with and for them. I had the best time putting Georgia’s playroom and play kitchen area together, and I love getting to enjoy it with her!
