We all have that one space in our home that get s a ton of traffic and yet, isn’t quite a functional as we know it has the potential to be. For me, it was our laundry room/mudroom. Located right off our garage, we pass through this space daily and we come and go. Previously we had some cabinets above the washer and dryer but nothing that provided functional storage or a place to toss things like coats, shoes and book bags. Which is why I knew we needed to tackle this space and create a useful landing area for all out family’s bags, shoes, packages… all the things!

A PEAK AT THE PROGRESS

Since this is a smaller space, I knew I could get away with a fun pattern without it being too overwhelming. I opted for this gorgeous blue mosaic tile and I’m in love with how it turned out! It has a modern, preppy, coastal feel that is 100% me! I was deciding between a light grey cabinet and bright white. But after choosing this tile, I knew I had to go with the white cabinetry.

DESIGN PROGRESS

I've seen so many mudrooms with cute seating and open cubbies. That might work in a larger space but for our mudroom we needed places to store things out of sight. For us that meant lots cabinet doors and minimal seating.

In the original plans we had a whole wall of seating and less cabinet space, but I asked the contractor to edit the drawings to include more vertical storage space. I'm so happy with the outcome compared to our original sketch. I'm able to store all sorts of things in the tall cabinet. And the hidden cabinet behind the bench is the perfect spot for Georgia's shoes and all of our dog's accessories.

THE AFTER

Last but not least we added a few pretty hooks for jackets. And this acrylic calendar. I'm loving having our appointments and weekly commitments in an easy to access space. I already feel more organized, so here's to hoping that continues throughout the year.

Since we started using a dry erase calendar I needed a spot to write down birthdays and special dates throughout the year. I’m terrible with remember dates so I knew just winging it would not be a good plan.
