What’s In My Bag

I used to consume magazines like air. I loved buying as many as I could and pouring through them, bookmarking pages to go back to later (I never went back later). My dad thought it was a silly habit and waste of money, but that didn’t bother me. Magazines used to make me so happy!

One of my favorite sections was the What’s In My Bag feature. Celebrities’ bags were always so perfectly laid out, the products strewn just so, expertly showcasing all the must-haves they kept so well-hidden in their bags. It really felt like you were getting a personal look into their lives. I realize now that most of the products in their bags were really contractual obligations they had to showcase, but that’s no mind to me. It doesn’t rain on my throwback magazine parade!

At first, this bag by MZ Wallace turned me off. I felt it looked like a puffy liquor store bag, and it just didn’t do much for me. But, like most things, I succumbed to the trend and it’s now the bag I use and wear every day! I have it in the dark grey color (magnet), which goes with just about any outfit, and it’s a crossbody, which is one of my biggest requirements in life when it comes to a daily handbag. Crossbody or bust! The best part, though, is how much the MZ Wallace Small Sutton bag can hold. Its depths are truly magic!

MASK BAG AND FACE MASKS: I’m loving this mesh bag. It’s from Anthropologie, but has since so sold out so I linked some similar options for you to browse if you’re in the market for a mask bag! These face masks have been a constant source of compliments over the last few months when I’ve been out and about. Never thought I would type that sentence in my life, but here we are. They really are so cute and happy, which we all need more of in 2020.

OTHER, SMALLER BAGS: One thing you should know about me is I’m a huge proponent of bags within bags. Meaning, I don’t just throw things into my bags and purses to roll around all willy nilly; I believe in a bags inside bags system to keep things organized. I’ve shared the puzzle bags no less than a million times on Instagram, and the organization does not stop with kids toys. It most definitely spills over into my handbags, and these are just some of the smaller zipper bags I love!

CARD CASE: I love Mark & Graham for custom, monogrammed leather goods. I’ve had this card case for a while and keep my license and my most-used cards in it, as well as my car key fob!

FLORAL WALLET: For all other cards (grocery store cards, gift cards, cards I’ll never use but can’t seem to get rid of), I carry this adorable Rifle Paper Co. wallet that was an Anthropologie collaboration. It’s so happy and bright!

MAKEUP BAG:  Of course, makeup must have its own bag. We can’t have loose powder and smushed lipstick staining the innards of your bag! I love this set of see-through bags for makeup. They keep everything in one place and make it easy to reach in and grab exactly what I’m looking for.

ON-THE-GO EXTRAS: From fruit snacks and bandaids to mini manicure kits and hair brushes, these are just some of the things I always keep in my bag (but organized within a smaller bag, of course).

NOTEPAD: I’m old school and still love pen and paper for list-making, so I almost always have a few pens and a couple of notepads in my handbag!

SUNGLASSES: I can’t function without my sunnies, and I love these matte black ones by Quay. They’re a reasonable price, just big enough, and are super flattering!

BAG 2: GOYARD TOTE

For the days I’m with Georgia and need a much bigger bag, I love my Goyard. It’s an investment, for sure, but I use it almost daily so I’ve definitely gotten my worth out of it. I love the size, shape, look—all of it! Plus, it holds all the things Georgia needs with ease: diapers, wipes, (what feels like hundreds of) snacks. I’ve also added two key components to my Goyard that make it even more functional!

ACRYLIC BASE: Bags tend to lose their shape when you set them down, but there’s a fix for that. I bought this acrylic base a few years ago, and it was a great life decision that has changed my handbag game. They now have a leather option that I might need to grab as well!

BAG ORGANIZER: The second thing I added to my large handbag to keep things overly organized is this insert. I can’t imagine navigating a large handbag without it! Everything has a place, even receipts, snack wrappers, and diapers! It’s the best.

That concludes what’s in my bag(s)! Two things happened over the course of creating this light reading: 1) I cleaned out my handbag, which is a win in itself and 2) I was reminded I’m just a basic gal with basic needs and basic bags within her bags. I don’t carry around a small unicorn or lightning bolt of uniqueness, but the important thing is that my basicness is completely sorted and organized just how I like it!
